Here we are back in Granada, Nicaragua for the third time in our lives but, unfortunately, not for long enough. We originally moved to Granada, Nicaragua back in 2013 on a whim after watching an episode of House Hunters International. Really. We’d never been before and didn’t visit first. Myself, my wife Roberta, and our then 4-year-old son Levi just packed up and moved having no idea what to expect beyond rigorous YouTube research and chatting online with a few expats.
In total we spent almost a year in Nicaragua, with the bulk of that time being spent in Granada before moving to Matagalpa for a few months. We later returned to Granada for two-weeks in 2015.
Our then 4-year-old son is now our current 15-year-old son and has virtually no memory of living in Granada, so for him all of this is new. We tested this by pointing to a house we used to live in and asking him, “We used to live there. Do you remember that?”
“No. Wait, we lived in a spa that also sold shoes?”
“It wasn’t a shoe-selling spa then.”
“Dang, free shoes and pedicures would have been awesome. I’d definitely remember that.”

Roberta and I are also older, but you’d never guess it because we have somehow managed not to age at all and look just as vibrant and youthful as we did 10 years ago. Right? We do, right? I’ll take your silence as a resounding, “Why, yes you two look so vibrant and youthful I thought for sure your 15-year-old son was actually your older brother and, possibly, legal guardian!”
But now we’re back! At least for 10 days. And just as before I shall regale all you readers with all the mundane details of our lives here for the next 10 days. I apologize in advance that you won’t find much YouTube style “vlogging” here wherein most of what you “learn” about Granada is what a vlogger’s face looks like and that they make obnoxious sounds when they eat “authentic street food” but not really anything useful. Trust me, you won’t learn anything useful here, either, but at least you should be much less annoyed.
