Sorry for the late response. I loved Matagalpa, but it is a different vibe than Granada. Although there are a few expats and occasional backpackers roaming around, it is far removed from the tourist-centric likes of Granada, which is why I enjoyed it there. It’s a much larger city with an apparently more solid infrastructure. It’s also quite a bit cooler, being up in the mountains. It is very mild during the day and very cool in the evenings. If you have the time I’d suggest spending a weekend or more there to see if you like it.

I plan on moving to matagalpa in the spring, so very interested in whatever you have to say about it.
